In ancient and tribal societies, tribal members would gather around the communal fire and share stories. Those ‘huge’
stories, metanarratives, of how life unfolded, would be shared, and tribal members, too, would share their own ‘life stories.
Connectedness! Fellowship! Wisdom! Community!
And yet we’ve lost that ancient and valued concept of the ‘telling place’. That is...until now!
Telling places still exist. They are events, time and places where ‘telling’ our life-story, hearing others’ stories take place; where those ‘huge’ overarching metanarratives that ‘show’
us out place and power in the cosmos are heard; and yes, where we can hear, participate and share our own story, and try journalling...a great way of self-
discovery and spiritual growth that is both profound and practical. Our telling place events occur periodically, and are led by our own anamcara [’soul
friends’, spiritual teachers]. They take the form of retreats, and we organise ‘cafe-style’ Telling places that last 2-3 hours (usually on a particular theme).
You see, you are part of a ‘never-ending’ story that is bigger than the cosmos itself! And here is your
opportunity to understand the cosmic, overarching metanarratives of life, and tell your ‘story’, perhaps
for the first time, and so learn, and grow, and put it all in perspective. Time to ‘search for the lost
pieces of yourself’!
